By this web site I hope to generate some
interest in the unique theory of the crucifixion contained in my
book, The Law and the Spirit.
A graduate of Harvard Law School and a
practicing attorney, I developed the theory following a year as a
Research Fellow at Yale Divinity School (1970-71) and many
additional years of independent research.
To present the theory, I have constructed
a Socratic dialogue between two Christians who:
- formulate a close-knit argument
leading from certain basic assumptions to their logical
- proceed with a step-by-step logic,
beginning in the realm of experience and ascending to the
level of unseen spirit;
- fashion an understanding of Christ
that does not depend on a virgin birth, incarnation,
physical resurrection, or original sin;
- portray the law as the structure of
the world in Gods mind as he wants it ultimately to
- show how Christs concept of
love supplants the law;
- demonstrate how Christs death
on the Cross released the spirit of love into the world,
making possible the ultimate establishment of a utopian
society on earth where moral laws are unnecesssary;
- take the union of God and Christ out
of the incarnation and into the domain of the spirit;
- answer the question: Why should
forgiveness require the shedding of blood?
